California Women Business Leaders

There has been significant discussion recently about women “leaning in” and an outpouring of executive leadership support for greater gender equality. A new women’s movement is emerging in which women advocate for one another and have the ability to influence at the highest levels.

A study published by the University of California, Davis reveals that huge companies with female executives and boards are performing BETTER than ones with male boards and executives. UC Davis has been advocating advancement opportunities for women in the workplace as well as encouragement for women to pursue whatever degree or job they want.

Statistical Findings

  • Women hold 12.3% of board seats and highest-paid executive positions—a 6.5% increase from 2015.
  • There is a 33% decrease since 2010, showing more women are being appointed to existing or new board seats and executive positions.

Although corporate boardrooms remain male-dominated, women are earning their seats to the top through great effort. The results show that there is a need for greater participation of women on corporate boards and in the executive suites and more advancement opportunities for women in the corporate world should be considered.

The technology software sector is one of the lowest percentages of companies with highest-paid women executives and that is probably because there are not many female executives anyways. However, as explained before, the financial services sector is the best place to start since 52% of these companies have one or more highest-paid women executives.
